Leah Remini Says She Is Relieved After Danny Masterson's Sentence

The actress responded to the news on social media on September 7 after learning that the 'That 70's Show' veteran had been given a 30-year prison term for rape.

Less than 24 hours after Danny Masterson, 47, was given a 30-year prison term for two counts of rape on September 7, Leah Remini, 53, attacked the Church of Scientology and Danny Masterson. In response to the That 70's Show actor's formal punishment, the King of Queens alum posted a lengthy letter on X (previously Twitter). "Sitting in court today with the women who survived Danny Masterson's predation was a surreal experience," she wrote in the opening of her open letter.

Former Scientologists "have sadly grown accustomed to Scientology using its financial resources, religious protection, and relationships to snatch justice away from them over the past seven decades," Leah continued. "Danny Masterson dodged responsibility for his misdeeds for more than 20 years. Despite the fact that Danny was the only one who received a term, his conviction and punishment serve as indictments against Scientology, its agents, and its criminal head.

Mr. David Miscavige.

The 53-year-old then asserted that the group covered up Danny's criminal activity. "Scientology managed to cover up Danny's crimes with the help of its intelligence agency, the Office of Special Affairs, top 'church' officials like Kirsten Caetano Pedersen and Julian Swartz, its network of media-hungry unethical attorneys, private investigators, agents, and civilian Scientologists who engaged in a conspiracy to cover up crimes of sexual violence," she continued.

Leah expressed her relief for the conclusion of the protracted trial following the sentencing. She continued, "I am relieved that this dangerous rapist will be off the streets and unable to rape and assault women violently with the help of Scientology, a multi-billion dollar criminal organisation with tax-exempt status. "The survivors displayed a level of bravery that I am in awe of when they read their victim impact statements aloud in court while the man who raped them and some of the very Scientologists who terrorised them over two decades were just a few feet away."

Leah, a former Church member, further denounced Scientology for allegedly harassing the victims. She said, "Scientology and its agents have engaged in vicious and criminal harassment of these women ever since they came forward to law enforcement, on top of the horrific horror of being raped and having their rapes covered up by the same organisation that swore to protect them. I'll never stop reminding people that it is a serious offence in Scientology to report another Scientologist to the police. You will lose all you have ever known as a result of such a serious crime, including your family, friends, and work.

The native New Yorker commended the victims and the legal system for the successful conclusion of the sentencing as she wrapped up her remarks. "Danny's victims, the women, fought tenaciously for justice. Their determination, fortitude, and bravery have inspired hope in all Scientology victims that justice would be served. We will always be grateful for that," Leah wrote. We appreciate the LAPD officers' fair and impartial handling of this investigation and trial, as well as that of the LA District Attorney's office, Judge Olmedo, and the jury.

According to NBC News, Danny was found guilty of raping two women more than 20 years ago and received a sentence of three decades in prison. Bijou Phillips, 43, the wife of The Ranch star Danny Phillips, was present in the courtroom at the time of Danny's sentence and is said to have sobbed, according to the BBC. The blonde beauty wed her spouse in 2011; they have a kid named Fianna Francis who was born in 2014.
