Hayley Williams of Paramore is well aware that not all hair colour combinations work well.
The actress, who made a mark early in her career with a distinctive orange-red hair colour, was ready for a change, and what better place to do it than on a massive stage?
Williams, now 34, felt that the best approach to grab attention would be to go out with a brand-new, surprising hair colour in 2008 as she prepared for her band's big premiere at Jingle Ball in New York.
For a new hairstyle, she went to her friend and hairstylist Brian O'Connor, who is now a business partner in the hair colour company Good Dye Young.
'Brian, I want purple hair with orange fringe,' I said when I approached him. Williams reveals this to PEOPLE exclusively at a celebration for the Ulta stores' introduction of Good Dye Young. The band was only beginning to get aired on the radio at the time, and things were just getting started before our very first Jingle Ball.
Williams remembers that at the time, she was prepared for a change because she had begun to "resent" the popular orange "Misery Business" hair colour for which she had become famous.
She explains that she needed to change things up for the fans: "I needed to switch it up on them!" "But the purple appeared so dark on me that my skin couldn't take it. When I attended Jingle Ball that year, I appeared dead. We lamented that for some time.
She was hurt by the event, but time, experimenting, and some personal development have taught her that she can still explore and that she doesn't always need to avoid the look that has come to be associated with her.
She asserts that she can still alter and be who she wants to be despite being a member of Paramore and having a following. In fact, blonde is now very popular. pale blonde I told Brian I was prepared to do that before this tour. However, I preferred blonde and was still fine with some orange for fun.
As a result, the hair was completely bleached with just a touch of orange at the tips to harken back to the original hairdo.
